What does your MINDSET have to do with your MARKETING?

I know there are a few of you who really get this stuff because you've responded over the last year any time I write about something more in depth or from my heart.

However I thought I should explain a little why a Marketing Coach and Consultant like me is now talking so much about:

  • Your Mindset
  • Big Picture Thinking
  • Focusing and Working ON Your Business
  • Generating Wealth
  • The Millionaire Mind

I know I used to write about (and still do) topics like:

  • The 5 Mistakes Made in Email Marketing
  • How to Get Free or Low Cost Publicity
  • The 7 Simple Ways to Follow Up
  • My 13 Networking Secrets

But I realized something in the last year of all my training, coaching and workshops - that I'VE TAKEN or paid for to learn more and increase my skill set.

None of these things matter without the right MINDSET!

Do YOU Want to be on my Preferred Vendor List?

Or better yet, do you have one of your own??

Many of you already are people I like to refer my clients and friends to but frankly it's hard to keep track of all the referrals; I'm sure you probably feel this way too (those of you who get and refer a lot each month). So I'm implementing a system to make referring and outsourcing a lot easier and this could be something that would work (or a variation of it) in your business in order to make you more money and get more referrals yourself!

Here is a list I composed of the vendors and resources I like to know a few of and refer out often - are you one of these???? I have a few in each category that I normally refer to but frankly I'm looking for some SOLID RELATIONSHIPS and agreements with folks who understand this type of business model.

  • Advertising Mediums
  • Attorneys - Business or Estate
  • Audio Recording Companies
  • Bookkeepers
  • Branding Specialists
  • Business Consultants/Strategists
    Caterers
  • Coaches - business and personal
  • Computer Techs and companies
  • Copywriters
  • CPA's, Accountants
  • Credit Card Services, Merchant Services
  • Direct mail list brokers
  • Disc Jockeys
  • Financial Planners/Advisors
  • Gift Basket Companies and Gifting related companies
  • Graphic designers
  • Hosting companies
  • Housekeepers
  • HR or career consultants
  • Internet marketing specialists, SEO companies
  • Intuitives and Psychics
  • Landscapers
  • Mailing Houses
  • Organizations - eWomenNetwork, chambers, leads groups
  • Personnel Agencies
  • Pet Sitters
  • Photographers
  • Printers
  • Professional Organizers
  • Promotional product companies
  • Public Relations People
  • Shopping Carts
  • Sign and Graphic companies
  • Transcriptionist
  • Video Recording Companies
  • Videographers
  • Virtual Assistants
  • Virtual Office Receptionists
  • Web designers
  • Websites and resources online - birthdayalarm.com, vistaprint.com, webstat.com, sendoutcards.com, etc.

***Now, keep in mind, I know sometimes over 30 people in just ONE category so I can't refer you all BUT I am interested to know those of you who will APPRECIATE the referrals if you know what I mean!***

Since my business is really turning into a connection and referral based model where I refer out and outsource almost everything I need an my clients need, I'm putting this together to make me more organized, help my assistant be more organized, make my referrals more organized, etc.

In return, of course I have an affiliate program that you all can join
(Sign up online now for my affiliate program (it's free) and start earning commissions).

Now don't forget to go and apply now for my PVL!

How and Most Importantly WHY It's Important to Establish Yourself as an Expert

Have you established yourself as an Expert in your field? If not, this is a great way to get added exposure, publicity and credibility for you and your business which will ultimately bring you more sales and more money!!

Many business professionals I know are so good at what they do but the problem is that everyone else doesn't know that about them. When you think about what kind of image you want to present to the public and business community - what is that? What do you look like (in your mind)?

Do you think everyone else sees you the same way or do you suppose they might have a different impression of you? My friends at Y2Marketing call this your "Inside Reality" vs. your "Outside Perception". Your Inside Reality is what you think you are being perceived as and your Outside Perception is what people actually perceive you as. Many business owners get this confused or don't realize that their Outside Perception doesn't match their Inside Reality.

The Kitchen Remodel is Almost Here!!

A couple weeks ago in my ezine (email newsletter - sign up online at http://www.getfreemarketingtips.com/!) I casually mentioned that I'm going to be doing a big kitchen remodel in my home - yeah!!

I just purchased all new appliances (all black) and am waiting now for demolition to begin next week so I can get all new cabinets and countertops - woo hoo!!

I've been in this house for over 2 years now, ever since I got separated (now divorced) from my Ex and the kitchen has always bugged me with it's pitted tile and old pitted/chipped dark brown grout and the worn old, faded and water stained cabinets.
I'm done with it!

As soon as I knew I would be able to sell my dad's condo (from when he passed) I figured I deserved a new kitchen (and a new car of course, I already have that), not just because "I had the money now" but because:
  • #1 my dad would have wanted me to do these things for myself

  • #2 I went through a lot the year after his death since his will wasn't up to date and I had to go through probate, condo sale, psycho old girlfriends, attorneys and a ton of my own cash reserves, heartache and time!

  • #3 I need a warm, welcoming and organized environment in order to be really creative and do my best work and since I work from home and am home often the kitchen is a big part of this environment for me

Not that I feel like I have to justify this to anyone but I want to document this for myself really just for fun. When I was in college my mom totally remodeled her kitchen, expanded it and more and I just remember it taking MONTHS!!!! So, I was a little reluctant wondering if I should rely and depend on any contractors at this stage or not.

And although I do know a TON of general contractors, cabinet companies, etc. it was really hard to decide who to go with.

These days I'm more of the type of person who likes things in easy, organized packages and the ONE STOP SHOP so to speak so I went with Sears (sorry guys I know). They had their S*#T together though, they had the samples and colors to choose from, they spent a ton of time measuring, planning and explaining to me what they could do and what my options were that it was so easy to make decisions on what to do.

I didn't have to go down to the tile store and pick out tile or go into a home improvement store and pick out cabinet faces or colors - it was done in one 3 hour meeting on the spot. Then a couple phone calls later and another measuring visit they should have it all ordered by Monday when they plan to do the demo.

So, I just took a few 'BEFORE' photos - here they are:

Some Kind Words from Kat's Friends...

As some of you know, I'm on Match.com and have been online dating for a couple years now.

Well they just introduced a new thing where your friends can write up a testimonial for you that you can then post on your profile (for all the world to see!)!

I know, some of you are saying to yourselves "no way I'd do that!" but it's fun....

So, of course, being the savvy marketer that I am.....I asked a few friends to please 'do me a favor' and write up something for me to post.

Of course 3 of them jumped right at the chance - you got to love really 'good' friends.

Here's what they had to say and I'm telling/showing you -

#1 because they are so sweet and I wanted to share

#2 because a good testimonial for my 'character' is just as good if not better than for my business expertise

#3 because I'm a good marketer (hee hee).

From Tiffany (here's me and Tiff at our friend Kris' wedding):

I have known Katrina since college. We have had lots of laughs together. She is a positive person to be around. Katrina is a considered a "driver" with regards to her personality and abilities-she knows how to make things happen-she has a strong personality and is a leader is whatever she does. So, if you are self assured, successful and want a lot out of life and want your partner to be a strong, succecssful woman, Katrina is your match.

From Jaime (see photo in post below!):

Kat is so much fun to be with! I always have a great time regardless if we are going to the gym, coffee or "girls night". We met 4 yrs ago at a networking event & became close friends rather quickly. She works hard & plays harder. She is a giver & loves to treat her man better than u could hope, as long as she knows it is appreciated. She is in the place in her life that she is ready for a great guy. However, us girls have a dang good time hangen out, so you have to make it worth her while.

From Shawna (here's me, Shawna and my mom at Christmas 2007):

Kat is one of the most giving & loving people you will have the fortune of meeting. Kat is very hard working, organized both personally & professionally, determined, self-motivated, out-going, has a beautiful smile & gorgeous eyes that draw many people to her. Kat is honest and real, she has nothing to hide & everything to share. She loves to experience all that life has to offer & wants to share it with a nurturing, romantic companion who can give & receive, & appreciate her & the relationship.

Thanks Ladies - I love you!!

Storm Watch 2008! - Update

As an update to my earlier post about our storm here in Sacramento, CA a couple weeks ago since a few of you were wondering.....

  • The new fence is in

  • A new irrigation system went in with it since it needed to be done and since the fence was already down

  • Two huge two-pronged trees are now gone in my front yard - sad but relieved

  • Tons of tree debris and mud left over

  • Almost $4,000 later!!

All is ok now but wow, I'm glad I had some money on hand for such an emergency....do you?

As a small business owner, homeowner and single gal it's very important for me to have some money available to me 'just in case' you know? You never know when life, Mother Nature or God are going to throw a curve ball at you.

I have a great financial advisor, Jaime with Edward Jones (Jaime's the one on the left and then our friend Toni out for a girls night out), that I love. She takes care of me, keeps in touch with me and tells me just as much as I want to know without me going on overload. She's great and she gets me very good results.

Need a financial advisor for yourself? I highly recommend it. You can't do everything yourself you know....you also can't be up on everything that's going on in the financial world in order to inform you to make the best decisions. Don't be silly, at least get someone who does this for a living to give you some expert advice!

Now, I guess I need some great new plants and trees and new landscaping....this spring!

Thanks for all your thoughts -

Storm Watch 2008!

You know you're having a bad day when....

A tree falls on your house while breaking down your new fence.
Hmmm, what a day it was last Friday....
Did you hear about the storms in California? Specifically in Sacramento where I am? I know it hardly compares to tornados or floods and stuff like in other areas of the country, but it's probably the scariest thing and worst thing that's happened to me in any of my homes before!
Of course, I knew it was going to fall. That's the worst part. I could hear the tree leaning on the fence, it made noise up against my living room wall. I kept going out looking to see if it would hold; one time even running for my life thinking it was going to fall ON ME!
I pulled out all the tree guys and tree companies I had info on and started dialing. With the huge storm in the works they all said "is it an emergency? because all we are working on are emergencies?"
I said, "well, no, not yet but it will be within the hour! it's going to blow!"
Finally, I reached two guys and told them both to come - who knows who would get there first or could get started helping right away.
By the time they had gotten there, the tree had fallen and scared the daylights out of me. I kept watching the news channel and seeing all the trees falling on homes and buildings all over town - leaving big gaping holes in the roofs. That could be me! Boy am I grateful that no major damage happened to my roof; I can handle the yard mess and building a new fence but not having to worry about flooding in my house and living situation. I Thank God.
One guy took the time and climbed on the roof to cut the tree off the roof at least - just in time before he broke the chain on his saw thing!
The other one came back with a crew to cut down the other half of the leaning tree (just in case).

And then of course, there's the mess it leaves.....especially when every tree company is too busy on 'emergencies' to do the 'clean up'!

Oh, well....now tomorrow I'm getting another tree cut down because it's dangerously close to leaning and/or falling on my neighbor's house (and he'd sue me for sure!). Then all this mess taken away too!

Conclusion:

  • one storm
  • two trees
  • one fence
  • 6 tree companies
  • 3 quotes
  • 2 emergency 'you're hired!'
  • one week
  • and $1,850 later (so far at least).....yuck!

Whew!

Help Me Find Mr. Right!

Help Me Find Mr. Right!?!?

I know this is a little unorthodox and a little weird maybe for me to put this out there - but what the heck, right? I believe that "If you don't ASK, you don't RECEIVE!"

As part of my 2008 goals, I would love to find 'Mr. Right for me'.
I've tried internet dating sites, singles groups that hook you up in dinners and events each month with supposedly 'like-minded' people of the opposite sex and even a friend or two have tried to hook me up....not a lot of luck yet.

So, I thought I would put this out there to you, my loyal ezine subscribers or blog readers, to help me. Granted I know that some of you are very far from me here in Sacramento, California. However we've all got 'networks', right?

The guy on the left is an example of a 'good referral' for me and the one on the right is an example of a 'not so good referral' for me. ;0)

You probably know great single guys all over the place or who's to say if it was a good connection, traveling wouldn't be an option. After all, I do have mostly an internet focused business these days!

So here goes....If you really, really want to know what Mr. Right looks like to me....this is a very good start!
  • Highly motivated in business but still believes in having balance, has goals

  • Would put me first and think of me all the time (at the store, with friends, in the car, etc.)

  • Very affectionate and attentive (in public and private)

  • Very outgoing and sociable (able and willing to talk to anyone in any setting if need be)

  • Also somewhat interested in being a homebody – home improvements, updating, entertaining

  • Somewhat romantic if not really romantic (sends flowers, gives cards, leaves notes, cooks dinner, etc.)

  • Has a lot of his own friends (so I know he has a life beyond me with his own interests)

  • Supportive of what I do, interested in knowing about it and being involved

  • Financially stable and smart with money although not ‘cheap’ (got to be a good tipper)

  • Preferably owns his own home or on his way

  • Preferably has one or two kids (ages 4-14?)

  • Has a good relationship with his ex if he has one

  • Family oriented whether has a big or small family

  • Thoughtful and respectful of others and me

  • Selfless and generous yet respects himself and doesn’t always do for others, believes in taking care of himself too

  • Caring and a bit emotional when it comes to a relationship

  • Able to communicate openly and honestly any time, doesn’t hold things in or hold grudges

  • Sees other people’s opinions and sides of the story, doesn’t just see his (rational)

  • Probably between the ages of 35-42 or could be a bit older but needs to have a really young ‘look’ about him

  • Preferably at least 5’9” tall and somewhat fit, not very overweight

  • Likes to workout but isn’t a fanatic about it

  • Can be sarcastic and have a fun personality and sense of humor

  • Strong and confident in himself, not self conscious at all

  • Preferably lives within a ½ hour of me

  • Someone who makes time to see me even if he has a busy schedule

  • Trustworthy of course and a one-woman type of guy

  • Someone who listens to and respects my opinions and advice

  • Huge physical attraction to each other

  • Someone who wants to take care of me – physically, mentally and emotionally (financially not as important)

  • Someone who thinks I’m funny and who’s proud of me

  • He would believe in the law of abundance, setting intentions and some sort of a higher power as well as believing in karma

  • Someone who can dress up nicely and doesn’t mind it or dress down too

  • Someone who knows who they are mentally, what they want and who they want to share that with

  • Someone who senses when I’m upset or something’s wrong and wants to help me

  • Someone who believes in ‘picking their battles’ meaning when they don’t care too much about something, they’ll do it the other person’s way and when something does matter to them strongly they will communicate that so the other person will hopefully give in to their way

  • Someone who motivates me to be my best, strive for more and to just be me

  • My best friend and who wants to spend time with me yet also has no problem with girls nights out or spending time apart (he does the same)

  • Happy to come with me to a business event if I ask and will have fun doing so

  • Interested in learning and growing more always and who keeps his mind open to all kinds of possibilities

  • Someone who isn’t afraid or always remembers to show his love

  • Optimistic and usually sees the good first

  • Able to handle a very outgoing, independent, motivated yet very giving, honest and relationship-oriented type of gal

  • Not jealous, not selfish, not controlling, not set in his ways and unopen

That about covers it! ;0) I'm not asking for perfection, just to be 'perfect for me'.

If you know someone - have them check out my website or contact me for more info about me too! katrina@ksawamarketing.com or (916) 727-4142.
