Ready to add another market? , part 1

So, you think you're ready to go after another market?

Are you sure?

My question to you FIRST is:

Have you mastered the list of contacts and prospects you've got already? Are you keeping in touch with them a couple times a month either in their mailbox, their inbox or in their face? Do they all know and think of you all the time?

If not - I would suggest you rethink this??? But, hey, that's just me.

I believe it's important to set up easy to follow, easily maintainable, logical and effective marketing systems in your business. This doesn't matter if you're large or small but without systems you could be running-a-muck!

Then, once you have these set systems in place for mailings, emailing, networking, advertising, publicity, speaking, tradeshows, etc. (which is what I help you do in my 1 hour Strategy Session of course)...

AND THEY ARE PRODUCING RESULTS THAT YOU WANT. (the important key)

Then, and only then should you add on another market, industry, target audience, group of prospects - you get the picture.

Why?

Because if you keep adding new markets or new groups to target without effective follow up marketing systems to keep in touch with them - you've completely wasted your time and money on developing those new leads.

Many small business owners do this every day. They keep reaching for that new business, new lead, new way to get their name out there, new networking group and new advertising medium to generate the new business. But you know what? 9 times out of 10 they forget to do their consistent, effective, relationship building, ongoing marketing and follow up.

Sound familiar by chance?

If and when you've done all this with everyone and anyone you know and who's on your list and you are still doing it consistently (because it's 10 times easier to get repeat or referral business than it is new business)...

Then, you can start marketing to a new market. Ok? Sound like a plan? Believe me; you will thank me if you set all this up ahead of time. Otherwise you'll go marketing to a new market, get a ton of leads and not have time to even follow up on them much less the ones you already have.

Relationship Marketing is the easiest and most effective type of marketing out there - ask anyone in the industry. For small business owners and entrepreneurs this is a must if you want to succeed.

So, please don't try to sell your products and services to everyone just because they breathe air, niche it out to where you can have a specific message to your unique target audience so when they see your message - they say "Hey, that's for me!"

"3 Steps to Outlining Your Ultimate Lifestyle Vision (and Business)" , Part 2

Here is the second part to my tips for the Steps in Outlining Your Ultimate Lifestyle Vision (and Business)


You want to outline specific and timely goals that you want to attain in a specific time period. You can post these on your vision board too, I do. I make up about 8 goals for the year - big, lofty ones like publish my book, hold my first 4 day event, be a speaker at a big annual conference, etc. I don't worry about posting all the little details that go with each goal or writing down HOW I plan to accomplish them because that would be too daunting of a task.


  • You just want to write enough to throw it out into the Universe what you plan to accomplish.
  • Plus, when you write simple, quick goals like this you can actually take them and post them in your office, by your bedside, in your wallet, car or other significant place where they will ALWAYS be on the top of your mind.
  • Then of course you have to BELIEVE and have complete FAITH that you WILL attain them. (that's the hard part)

Lastly, you need to take a look at your environment and your relationships.

  • Are they serving you?
  • Are you being supported?
  • Are you being encouraged (at all times no matter what crazy ideas you come up with)?
  • Are you completely and utterly happy? Because if you're not, what's the point?
  • Take a deep look at your environment, your relationships with loved ones, co-workers and anyone around you or any THING around you that could be bringing you down. You have to keep your mind OUT of the negative AT ALL TIMES - this is CRUCIAL to your success!!!

Hopefully I've given you something to think about as far as how you can redesign your life or business (There's always room for improvement!).

"3 Steps to Outlining Your Ultimate Lifestyle Vision (and Business)", Part 1




Over the course of the last 3-4 years in my business, I've invested heavily in coaches, mentors, workshops, mastermind groups and kicking my own learning up a BIG notch. I did this not only to advance my own business but to help grow my client's businesses too.


I wanted to create a better life for myself. I wanted more freedom to be able to be with family, travel and to speak and inspire other entrepreneurs.

When I first set out on this quest of business development, I didn't realize I'd also be making a huge transformation in my self and personal development as well!

What I learned is that no amount of marketing, planning or goal setting would make me as successful as I wanted to be without the right mindset around TWO THINGS: Love & Money.

What I also learned is that in order to truly attain the lifestyle, the business and the life that you ultimately want you have to do 3 main things (and do them regularly mind you):

First, you have to develop your overall vision. What do you want your life to look like?

  • Do you want quarterly vacations?
  • Do you want a 7 figure income?
  • Do you want to only work Tues-Thurs, 5 hours a day?
  • Do you see yourself volunteering, giving back or doing something towards some other worthy cause?
  • Whatever this looks like for you, you need to claim it! You need to really give this some deep thought, not just a fleeting idea. You also want to be on the same page in your visioning as your significant other (that helps).
  • Helpful Tips to Keep Your Vision Top of Mind at All Times:
    * Create a vision board and hang it in your office - cut out magazine pictures or words, use photos of things you want, etc. to make a colorful collage of what your ULTIMATE VISION looks like.
    * Create a vision video, something short with motivating pictures, words and songs that capture what your ULTIMATE VISION looks like for you and then you can watch it every morning like my friend Kelly.
    * Develop vision statements, sort of like a mission statement, and then write them on sticky notes or signs around your office, car and home.

3 Keys to Enjoying a 6 - 7 Figure Business

At a recent workshop I just attended, one of the speakers mentioned the top 3 things you have to have to enjoy a 6 or 7 figure business and life.


While this is always a topic I enjoy listening to or talking about, I jotted their 3 things down and made a little tweak here and there and this is what I came up with to share with you:

First, you have to know your Life Purpose and what you are truly here to do. If you aren't sure how to find out what your Life Purpose is, I encourage you to find out. I got my hands read to find out mine. You can find out more about that here. There are other modalities and individuals that say they can also help you determine your Purpose, but do one of them and figure it out. Often times it's MUCH BIGGER than you think it is and you may have to really step into your power more to claim it!

Second, you must implement a money-making, freedom-based business model much like the one I have and like I teach many of my students how to build. This way your time is maximized, your expertise is emphasized and you are heavily rewarded for providing your intended gifts (which is a must!).

Thirdly, you've got to be fully in love. At the very minimum in love with life and love with yourself (Meaning you're 110% confident, you embrace your power, you stand up for your wants and needs, you truly value yourself, you believe in yourself and you invest in yourself and your business.) If you're also in love with a significant other too - all the better your business will be too! If you're not 'in love' at the moment or you're struggling in a current relationship then that's definitely hurting your business' revenues so see what you can do to improve your situation...FAST.

Motorcycle Mama (ok, Rookie)

So, my boyfriend has this motorcycle and I've ridden it a few times before, nothing major, mostly around town, out to lunch, etc. But last weekend Scott said he wanted to do a 'run' and wanted me to come with him.

He was going to borrow his friends larger bike (I forget the name of it, some big Harley), the kind he really wants to buy; to see if I like riding longer distances on the back of it.

He assured me that this larger bike would be much more comfortable to ride on the back, it would have a back rest (as his has one but it's a pain to put on so he rarely puts it on) and it even has a stereo!

So I said sure, what the heck, I'm game....it's one of his passions so I need to do more with it right? ;0) Then we actually went and borrowed the bike and it didn't have a backrest.

Well I'm not sure how much YOU know about how big of a difference a 'backrest' can make but it's HUGE! With a backrest you can actually relax on the back. You (I) have less fear of falling off backwards on a bounce or bump. On take offs you don't have to grip on so tightly or position your feet in such a way that's really uncomfortable.



Needless to say, it's a lot of work to ride on the back of a Harley without a back rest (in my opinion). You're always having to flex your muscles, sit up tall consciously, and more. (this bike in the pic to the right is NOT the one we rode, that would have been like riding a cadillac!)


So, here we are on our first Harley 'run' and yes it was a lot of fun but boy was I pooped when we got home....too much strain and not enough relaxation; not exactly my favorite mode of transportation.



So, guess what Scott is getting for Father's Day???

You guessed it, a really easy, quick release BACK REST for his Harley!! hee hee

Recap from Baeth Davis' Life Purpose Spirituality Summit

So, I'm back from Vegas and Baeth Davis' Life Purpose Spirituality Summit where I spent 4 days diving deep into what my life purpose was, my life lesson and found out all kinds of cool stuff about myself, inner strengths I need to step into more...and meeting a hundred + fabulous other spiritually minded entrepreneurs.

It was truly one of the best conferences I've been to in a while (and I go to a lot!). Mostly because of the topic, discovering your life purpose. Here's a pic of me and Baeth at her VIP party!

Now before the event Baeth's team mailed out these ink sheets and papers to record our handprints and fingerprints. We sent them back in and at the event we found out what our fingerprints told us!

I had gotten my hands read about a year ago but the person who did them never explained in such a practical and organized way WHY it was so important???

So this time it was really eye opening to hear all about my purpose and lesson. And guess what?

I'm doing my life purpose already! Most of the people in the room were to some extent but many were told they really needed to play bigger so to speak to truly live and serve the way they were meant to.

Here are some more pictures of me at the event, I didn't really take too many because frankly I was busy learning and thinking up new ideas for my business!



















I was so moved by some of the non-profit guests Baeth had speak at this event; she wanted to showcase those doing great things with their life purpose and basically everyone there was philanthropically minded to some extent. In fact, my friend Lisa Sasevich stood up one day and challenged all of us to match her $1,000 donation to one of them that I had to stand up and contribute too!


It's hard to describe it all and what I felt or how it's affected me....but I highly suggest that everyone gets their hands read by someone on Baeth's team, she's trained other hand analysts too. You can find out more about Baeth Davis and hand analysis for yourself on her site here.


Then on my last day I was able to have dinner with my mom pictured to the right here, she and her husband John live outside of Vegas and came in to spend the evening with me and my friend Krista. ;0)

10 Simple Ways to Follow Up with Prospects - Step 9 & 10


9. Systematize your follow up:


Make sure you sort your database by Hot, Warm and Cold leads and then also by either where you met them (i.e.; Your City’s Chamber of Commerce, professional or service organization, etc.) or some other system (like referral source vs. prospect) so that when you mail to them regularly you can mail to small groups at a time with a unique message. Mail to your database quarterly and email them monthly at minimum.

10. Plan year-round promotions:


Send out holiday cards not only for December, but maybe for Easter, the 4th of July or which ever holidays you feel like and then possibly their birthdays too. There are companies who send out cards for you, online sources you can use easily and there are websites that remind you when someone’s birthday is to make this easy. Ask me for info on these companies by sending me an email to katrina@jumpstartyourmarketing.com!

These tips are for any type of business, retail, service or product. I am always curious as to how a store is going to follow up with me. I shop there, I write a check, and they have my address and phone number – yet 9 out of 10 times – absolutely NO follow up marketing! Only do the larger stores put me on their mailing list and send me mailers and/or emails (like Linens & Things, Cost Plus and Fashion Bug); these retailers know just when I come in because I normally always get another coupon in the mail right after to come back again. The one that does follow up with me understands that repeat business is 5-10 times easier to get than new business.

So, not only do you need to follow up after new people you meet to GET their business or referrals and build those relationships, but you also have to cultivate those relationships over time so they keep you on top of their minds in case something comes up where they need your products or services or someone they know does.

10 Simple Ways to Follow Up with Prospects - Step 7 & 8


7. Call again:


Call, not necessarily to make the sale, but to further build that relationship, have coffee, meet for lunch, drop something off for them, etc. but another in-person meeting would be good in case they forget what you look like.

8. Make a creative impression:


If you’re really trying to get their business and you’re not getting anywhere, drop by a promotional product (s) with your card and brochure again or send it in the mail. Make sure your promotional product stands out from your competition and is unique or memorable.

10 Simple Ways to Follow Up with Prospects - Step 5 & 6


5. Keep your database up to date:


Enter them into your database (in the computer) so when you send out your next mailer they will be on the list to receive it. If you don’t have a database, you should get one (ACT, Goldmine, Outlook) or start an Excel spreadsheet for starters. You can outsource this task.

6. Send more than one mailing:

3. Use email wisely:


Add them to your email database (if appropriate and IF you are heeding correct spam laws in your correspondence) and make sure they get an email notice within 2 weeks.

4. Keep your ears and eyes out for others:


Drop in the mail or attach by email a document or article you found that you’d been discussing or something you recently read that would be of interest or pertinent to them.

10 Simple Ways to Follow Up with Prospects - Step 1 & 2



1. Take immediate action:


Always call or email within 24 hours of meeting someone telling them it was nice to meet them, asking about their business and offering a little more info about yours and what you could do for them or their referrals.

2. Take more than one action:


In addition to doing #1, also slip something in the mail to them – an introduction letter and a brochure, a thank you note (handwritten of course) or a flyer about your special promotion.

10 Simple Ways to Follow Up with Prospects


In any business it’s important to develop simple follow up systems to keep on top of your prospects’, customer’s and referral sources’ minds. If you don’t do your follow up; you are wasting valuable marketing dollars and time you’ve already spent on gathering new leads.

I do a lot of networking at chamber events, women’s organizations and biz expos and I generally collect about 25-50 business cards from new contacts on a good week. I pay an assistant to enter them all into my computer database for me so I can easily mail merge them when I want to send out a mailer. I also enter them into my email database because I usually ask them in person if they want to receive my free marketing tips and they always say yes. I follow up right away by email and for the hot prospects I send a postcard in the mail or a note too. Then they will continue to receive my emails every other week plus usually, if I’ve met them out networking, I see them out again very soon.

Follow up can be done in many ways now: email, fax, phone, mail or in person right? So, what do you do after you meet a potential client or even a potential referral source? Do you pile up those business cards on your desk until they get so old you have to just throw them away since they wouldn’t be of any use anymore? Or do you follow up and how?

On my blog I am going to post my 10 simple steps below and you will for sure build better relationships with those you meet as well as have more top of mind awareness with them.
