LIVE BIG! Not small....

Wow, what a week. I came back from being gone 11 days, living out of hotels in San Diego and Las Vegas...then to catch a cold. The Universe really wants to STOP me in my tracks and is putting every barrier in front of me to give in, hold back or not to press forward on things I know I need to be doing.


Do you ever feel like that?

Do you sometimes consider that things like this, declined credit cards, traffic, etc. are all just 'signs' that you shouldn't be doing whatever it is you're trying to do?

Well, I'd challenge you to consider that these things aren't 'signs' but think of them as illusions or as your subconscious trying to stop you instead. If you think of them as challenges or obstacles that you have to break through instead and you keep on plugging, not giving up on whatever the task is at hand, I'm telling you...the grass is greener; you will get to the goal.

This is the toughest thing to do though for most humans; we stop when times get tough, things get uncomfortable or at ANY sign of danger or problem.

But this is all just a ploy from the Universe and your subconscious to keep you small....

Don't give in; keep pressing through to what you want, your bigger goals, dreams and visions and YOU WILL GET THEM. But give in, give up or stop and they'll never become a reality.

What's a Budget, Got a Budget?


Ok so this is the big question....do you have a budget for your business? 99.9% of business owners that I talk to do not. Nor do they even know how to create one. Now I'm not a budgeting expert mind you but I do see a lot of start up business owners every month and I help them figure out where and how much to spend on WHAT in their business, their marketing and their big picture planning.

"Get FOCUSED...and Make More Money" Part 2

This is a two part article; today you can read all about part 2, check the blog for part 1 or it's in last week's ezine.


Last week I started writing about a topic that almost everyone in business for themselves should take time to think about. It's about how to get and stay more focused in your business in order to reach your goals or in many cases...make more money.

In part 1 of this 2 part series, last week I wrote about Getting Focused...and Making More Money.... with your goals, planning and day to day activities.

This week I'm talking about Getting Focused...and Making More Money....with your target market, the messages, hot buttons and call to action you're using in your marketing.

1. who wants what you've got?

2. why do they want what you've got?

3. what will make them buy what you've got?

4. what keywords and phrases will make them take action?

5. how can you write or talk to them in a way that makes sense to THEM?

6. how will you send/give them information so they will see it and respond?

I can't tell you how many small business owners and entrepreneurs I talk to weekly who don't get this! You don't get that EVERYTHING YOU DO in your marketing, promotions, planning and especially online have EVERYTHING TO DO WITH YOUR TARGET MARKET.

If you know this already, great. So what does the headline say on your website (each page!)? What does your follow up direct mail piece say exactly? Hmmm, don't have one or both of these? No idea? "Get FOCUSED...and Make More Money" Part 1

For the next two weeks I'm writing about a topic that almost everyone in business for themselves should take time to think about. It's about how to get and stay more focused in your business in order to reach your goals or in many cases...make more money.

In part 1 of this 2 part series it's all about Getting Focused...and Making More Money.... with your goals, planning and day to day activities.

Where are you wasting time and how to avoid this trap?


You first want to figure out WHERE you're spending your time day to day...keep a list! Write down everything you do for a week - EVERYTHING! And write down how much time you spent on it, if you could have done it in less time but weren't focused or didn't know how to accomplish a task and spent too long learning or trying, etc.

But truly BEFORE you do that step...hopefully you've stopped to think about how you really want your lifestyle to look? Most people haven't so don't feel bad if you haven't done this yet...but why not do it now?

• Think about how many hours you want to work each week and with whom do you want to work?

• Think about what kinds of services or products you want to deliver - do you like 1on1 services, group services or not talking to anyone personally at all for example?

• How much time do you want to spend with family, friends, traveling, giving back - you get the picture - outline your Ultimate Lifestyle Vision now!

Here are 6 steps you can take to ensure a little more structure and focus in your life.

1. Have a big picture vision for life and business - your Ultimate Lifestyle Dream

2. Have a practical yet 1-5 year plan - document what you want to accomplish, the big things, each year.
      a. Do you want to write and publish a book, hold a big event, speak all over the country, add a new product line, add a new computer system, develop a new website, take on new employees or staff, expand into another city - what?

3. Have a 6-12 month strategy - develop a vision board possibly to outline your annual goals and intentions
      a. Do you want to double your list, double your revenues, increase your membership by 50%, sell 1000 products, speak at 25 events, find the love of your life - what?

4. Have a 3 monthly implementation system (working ahead 3 mo as possible) - how will you accomplish all that needs to get done to reach your bigger goals?
      a. Who will you delegate what to?
      b. What systems do you need to install or subscribe to?
      c. What do you need to prewrite or prelaunch to be ready?

5. Have a somewhat scheduled yet flexible monthly calendar
      a. What daily activities do YOU need to do and which should your team do?
      b. What monthly activities or events do you need to be at, go to or review? (don't let appointments or clients take these spots)
      c. Be open to focused and targeted opportunities that come up so you can add them

6. Have daily action steps - try to put only 3 things on your to do list each day (and not big huge things like 'write book' or 'develop new product' - break them down into smaller steps of one bigger task)

Now you may need help to get these outlined since not everyone is so detail oriented or big picture focused. Left brains may have an easier time at this than right brains for example so it's ok to ask for help. Because if you have a much clearer plan and some structure set up in your business; you'll be more likely to focus better each day, week and year on what really has to be done to get you to your next level in business or next revenue jump.

Are You Seriously Supportive of Your Entrepreneurial Spouse?

NOTE: This posting this week is intended for probably your significant other or spouse to read...I felt compelled to write it talking to them about your needs since my marriage went south due to the lack of much of this. If you currently don't have one, give it to a family member or friend and/or save for Mr. Right later! Enjoy and hope it helps!


Did you know (you, meaning the non-entrepreneurial spouse of an entrepreneur) that your entrepreneurial spouse (or significant other - just as important in this scenario) takes on a huge responsibility when they start their own business?

Granted, some of the smaller, home based type business owners could be out there just to make a few extra bucks for fun or they're doing their business for a hobby, not truly a serious business venture.

However, I'm not talking about them here, I'm talking about actual entrepreneurs (home based or not) who are in business to turn a profit AND provide products and services they are passionate about.

I'm also talking about the ones who are your significant others or spouses (so forward this to them if this is the other party - you'll be glad you did) in which case YOU are also NOT an entrepreneur yourself and frankly wouldn't want to be....is this you?

Did you know that your spouse may not be getting the kind of support they need in order to be fully confident and successful in their business? (yes, by you) And in order to be completely successful at running your own business CONFIDENCE is the key!

When you have a job working for someone else, often you can succeed without that much confidence but when it's your own business...there's absolutely NO way.

Did you know that your spouse may not know how to communicate this need to you?

Now, two things can happen here....

1 - you won't care and you'll stop reading this or

2 - you'll care but you'll have no idea if this is true or even how to find out what your spouse needs exactly (hopefully you're still reading...)

If #1 occurred then you're probably on your way to divorce anyway so your situation is most likely not fixable.

If you're in alignment with #2 though then GREAT! But now what?

There are basically 2 things you can do to support your spouse in business (even if you don't have any involvement in their business, know what they do or want to know).

You can either take Action or Non-Actions.

• Actions consist of ways to physically help out or support your spouse.

• Non-Actions consist of ways to emotionally and mentally help out or support your spouse.

Your spouse unfortunately needs both in order to feel fully supported, loved and encouraged (that's the hard part, it requires some work).

But let's break it down...

• Actions

     o helping - when asked for help
     o learning - about what they do and how else you can support them
     o listening - to requests, feelings, emotions and needs
     o loving - at all times in various ways that are noticeable

• Non-actions

     o understanding - they need to do it 'their way'
     o giving - of your energy when they need it the most regardless if asked
     o sharing - feelings, emotions, questions and concerns
     o expecting - nothing but complete and utter happiness among all

Of course there's so much more to it than this but that's what marriage counselors are for right?

No, seriously...the one way to learn better how to communicate and support your entrepreneurial spouse is to start the dialog, practice this stuff, ask what they need, learn more about what others are doing and then get help as needed.

"The #1 Way to Get 10-20 New Prospects or Referral Sources (Clients too!) FAST!"

Over the last two years in growing my business I've taken some HUGE leaps of faith, I've invested heavily in coaching programs, mastermind groups and networking and out of all of that I've found that the single most effective way that my business has grown during this time was.....


Attending LIVE, multi-day, multi-speaker workshops around the country.


(This pic is some of my fabulous friends and clients from all over the world - US, Canada and Australia - that I never would have met if it wasn't for attending live events.)

Now some I've spoken at mind you and of course when you speak to a group of your target market or prospects you're going to get more business, sales and referral sources. That's a fact.

So, of course if you can speak about your business, what you teach or speak about anything to do with your products or services or how they benefit others...you should definitely do that. You want to seek out opportunities like I do. I'm not afraid to email or call an event or conference organizer and ask them if they're looking for more speakers and then tell them what I speak on.

What I'm primarily talking about today however is about actually paying to be in attendance at these live events. This kind of marketing is one of the BEST strategies and MOST EFFECTIVE these days, even in this economy, for most of my clients and peers as well.

It's simply because of the Like/Trust/Connect factor; people need to see you and experience you in person usually to feel really comfortable spending bigger dollars with you or referring you to their clients and friends.

I've been attending about 8+ events like this a year for 3 years now and seeing big results from the sales at them and afterwards in the follow up. In fact they are the ONE thing that seems to be working more than any other marketing I'm doing (besides speaking), social networking, direct mail, email marketing, blogging, etc.

This type of relationship building is a must, especially in this fast-paced world of tweets and forums and more. You do not want to sit behind your computer and expect the phone to ring or an order to be emailed in. You want to take an active role in going out and getting it.

Types of events to consider attending are:

• Any industry type event for your industry
• Organization events for organizations you're a part of (active part)
• Events, Business Expos and Conferences where your key prospects will be
• Events, Business Expos and Conferences where your key referral sources or peers will be because for some of you they can be more profitable connections for you in the long run

How to prepare before you go:

Of course this is a networking event and you'll also probably learn new things, strategies or get new ideas to incorporate into your business. There's probably going to be great speakers with good content to deliver. But keep in mind that you want to prepare to network effectively so that you can walk away with some really great connections or prospects.

• Bring plenty of business cards
• Bring sales flyers, one sheets, postcards or something quick and easy to pass out in case someone's interested (don't pass out to everyone or you'll look too salesy)
• Bring order forms or ways to take payment in case some are very interested and ready to take action. The worst thing you can do is make them wait and lose momentum.
• Bring or wear a clear, descriptive nametag
• Dress appropriately to make an outstanding first impression - overdressing is much better than underdressing in my opinion
• Take care of your overall appearance at all times even if it's an all day, all week event - you have to stay on top of your game and appearance or you'll turn off prospective connections

What to remember to do afterwards:

You must have a follow up plan in place to be able to further the connections you'll make. You want to prewrite letters, note cards, postcards and emails (preferably all of the above!) and have them ready to address and get out as soon as you return and enter all your contact information.

Be careful NOT to automatically add people to an email newsletter however, keep your follow up spam free please or you'll lose the respect you just earned!

Now, if you aren't sure about all this or how to prepare everything or where to go even and especially what to follow up with or who's going to do all that when you get back....take a deep breath and remember....you do not have to do all this yourself.

In fact I highly advise you don't!

Have people and systems in place before you go networking or leave for a conference and you'll ensure it all does get done. You'll see that everyone you connect with remembers you, wants to refer you or do business with you and you'll have solidified your place 'on top of mind' with them so when you see them again (because you most likely will when you go to another similar event or when following up online too) you can deepen that connection even further.

The Simple Definition of Happiness...Are You a True Example?

Like I mentioned in my post last week about how to be supported by your significant other, I know you may not be expecting this type of topic coming from a Business and Marketing Coach like me. But have you noticed the shifts I've made? The leaps I've taken? And the levels in business and life that I've made?

I'm going to get a little deep here and vulnerable with you if that's ok? Because I think it's important for those of you who resonate with me and my story to know that you're not alone and you CAN want and HAVE more.

This is what makes me different from all the other Business and Marketing Coaches out there though I believe. I want to focus on making sure my clients are 100% HAPPY in both your personal AND business life (that most importantly includes your LOVE LIFE!).

The shifts I've made are all due to my ultimate goal (which was hidden inside me for years and that I recently tapped into) of being 100%, completely and utterly HAPPY!

Yes, it would be cool to have the million dollar revenues, the vacation house in Hawaii, a boat, etc., etc., etc. and that will most likely happen too but none of that would matter if I wasn't totally, 100% happy in my life; my personal life.

You see, I was in a marriage relatively unhappy for the last couple years (to a really nice guy I might add since he reads my stuff!) but we just grew apart. I expanded my vision and where I wanted to go (being the entrepreneur I was) and he wanted to stay where we were. That didn't work for me and I felt like I was settling. We tried everything to work it out but in the end it was better to go our separate ways.

Since then I've been on a quest for what my true purpose was, how to do things differently in my business so that I could fulfill that purpose (it's big!) but along the way I discovered that there was still something missing.

I had a very successful coaching and products business with clients all over the world making a very nice income (not as much as I wanted mind you); I had great friends, family, took vacations but it wasn't enough.

I had a great big hole in my heart...it wasn't that I was lonely but I was longing to be in a deep and loving relationship with someone who thought the world of me. I realized I was spending hours and hours a week trying to date online, meeting tons of men with red flag after red flag. I also realized that my business had started to stagnate because I wasn't spending the time I used to in it; I was so focused on finding my Mr. Right!

That's when I discovered (after a few months of coaching on it with my coach!) that
MY TRUE DEFINITION OF HAPPINESS WAS
:

HAPPINESS = LOVE + MONEY

When this shift occurred in me, I immediately shifted my thinking about:

  • What I wanted in my Mr. Right (for me)
  • Who I needed to BE in order to attract HIM
  • What I would no longer settle for
  • How he would view me

And I did everything in my power to express to the Universe what it was that I wanted over the next few weeks and what happened only 6 weeks after that was nothing short of a miracle; I met him. He had every quality on my list of 40+ things I wanted (I'm not kidding about the 40+ things), he totally dug me too in every way and we were inseparable!

Scott and I now live together in a home we bought only 45 days ago. We live with his two daughters and my dog Zeke and it's like a fairytale. Of course we get guilt trips when we go to church because we're 'living in sin' right now but .... not for long I'm sure. ;0)

Not only did my business skyrocket though with new clients when we started dating but my self confidence level elevated so high that now I rarely ever have those days when I doubt, worry or stress about 'what isn't'. I'm constantly happy and people comment on how it shows too.

So, ask yourself...are you 100% completely happy too in your life?

You don't have to be making millions (yet) to be totally happy but you do have to:

  • believe in yourself fully; that you can have it all - the love and the money!
  • love yourself fully; not criticize your weight, looks, thinking or performance at work
  • enjoy your time alone (if that truly makes YOU happy) or with a significant other (if you have one)
  • be living your purpose and passions, not going through the motions doing something you hate or aren't too excited about

If you're not totally there yet, that's ok; the first step is awareness. For example you might be more aware now of issues that could be surfacing for you that you are tired and frustrated with settling for.

That's a great place to start
. Or if you're further along than that and you're really on the edge now then it may be time to take action.

"4 FUN Ways to Get Your Sexy Back"

Ok, who wants to "get your sexy back"?

  • Do you?
  • Wonder where it might have gone?
  • Never really been a fan of it?
  • Have no clue what it would matter if you DID get it back anyway?

Well, let me tell you...when women feel sexy and appreciated we feel on top of this world. We're invincible at that moment; we can do no wrong and everyone loves us.
Our confidence level goes through the roof and clients and customers start flowing to us like crazy....this is how feeling 'sexy' affects your business you know....

But what happens when we aren't feeling sexy?

  • doubt

Are You Being Supported by Your Significant Other in Business (or wish you had a SO)?"

I know you may not be expecting this type of topic coming from a Business and Marketing Coach like me but have you noticed the SHIFT lately?

Not only in me and my life - how I completly transformed my business when I found the love of my life; but also in many of your lives too.

Do you feel like there's something more out there for you but you aren't sure what it is or how to figure out your destined path?

Do you have huge visions and a really big mission in life that you need to deliver through your business but something is stopping you from really stepping into that?

Hopefully you don't resinate with this message but in speaking with hundreds of women entrepreneurs recently myself personally - the theme I'm seeing is about lack of support and lack of love in your life. And this has EVERYTHING to do with the success (or lack of) of your business.

If you're feeling like the people closest to you don't understand you, your goals or what you're truly trying to build in your business (and maybe aren't even willing to try) and you're not doing anything about it than more than likely you're a bit stagnant right now with your revenues, client base and marketing - nothing is likely to be working as well as you'd like.

I'm not suggesting to go out and get a divorce or anything, that's not the point of this article. The point is to:

Realize your position - Where do you stand in your current relationship (s)? Are you being understood and taken seriously? Are you being supported and encouraged..."no matter what"? Are you truly doing what you're most passionate about or just going through the motions with a random business or job?

Communicate your visions to each other. - If you're married and not really in agreement with how you should be developing or growing your business (yet it's 'your' business, not his) or if you're somewhat supported but maybe he doesn't think you should spend money until you make more money (opposite of the successful entrepreneurial thinking) If you're dating, be careful not to let too much information out about how you're running your business (or watch what happens when you do; watch for red flags). If you're what I like to call, Unhappily Single (which is where I was for 2 years after my divorce), then you have to simply DECIDE what you want, take a stand and take action to get it.

*But if you don't communicate what each of you want in life (whether he works for Intel and you're an entrepreneur, it doesn't matter); you may never make decisions well together and be totally off track all the time.

*Sit down and figure out what each of you wants your lifestyle to look like. What if you want 3 homes, fancy private jet, limos and vacations to Europe every quarter and he wants to live on a horse ranch in Montana? Then no decisions you make are going to mesh well with each other right? You have to discuss these things!

Find a way to share - Share what each of you is passionate about, what your interests are, what dreams you have and anything else that's on your mind. I see too many couples NOT doing this and it blows me away. I understand you 'get comfortable' and you don't want to 'rock the apple cart' so to speak but if you really want to be 100% happy YOU MUST SPEAK UP!
Finally, if none of this works or if you aren't even comfortable trying to approach him with this stuff then you have to seriously think "Do you want to live like this for the rest of your life?". I hope not. I hope you take some action towards building a happier life, love life and in turn more prosperous business...I promise things can easily turn around for you if you take time to make your love life and relationships flourish!

The 4 Levels of Your Marketing Funnel"



One thing most entrepreneurs make the mistake of doing is offering just one product or service, and only in one way. Doing this only allows potential customers to take advantage of your products and services ONLY if they see an EXACT FIT - both in budget and offering.

If you diversify your offerings with both do-it-yourself and interactive offerings and with low, medium and high pricing then you have a better chance of having higher revenues than someone who just has one product/service selling for one price point. (regardless of 'sale' pricing).

Even most of those products you see on infomercials aren't often one-of-a-kind products by one company; usually companies like that have multiple products - and it's the consistent marketing of course that makes them so successful. But they still diversify.

Now for most of us, we aren't going to have something for sale on an infomercial (although it could be nice - some make millions!).

For most of us, we're selling a product we're passionate about or selling a service we provide ourselves many times and that's fine. But you want to ask yourself, 'What else is possible?' How else can I package my expertise, knowledge, information, products, etc.? Especially now, in this economy; it's important to be offering various forms of products and services so various types of people with all different incomes and learning styles can experience your work.

Well here are 4 Levels of What (could and should be) in Your Marketing Funnel:

  1. The "Freebie" - what are you giving away on your website or in person so you can capture people's contact information so that you can continue to market to them? You've GOT to do this one for sure and it doesn't have to be a FREE consultation! Try to give something away that your target market will definitely want but it doesn't have to take your time, make it more automated instead.
  2. The "Try Me Out" - This is your low level offering. Can you record a free CD, write an ebook, offer a teleclass, prepare an ecourse? These are all lower level products or programs that you can create once then sell over and over again taking no more time (time being the key word on a low level offering).
  3. The "Do-It-Yourself" - This is the larger, more beefy product offering that people can buy and work through at their own pace. It could be your signature service packaged into a home study kit for example like I plan on doing with my Love and Money Business Summit and that I've already done with my JumpStart Your Marketing(TM) System.
  4. The "I'm All In" - This is for very interested and committed prospects who want more of YOU. They want to get your advice personally maybe or work with you 1on1, come to an event or even pay you for your high end programs or services. There are fewer people who will commit to these types of offerings however if priced right, you don't need that many, nor can you usually handle that many.
  5. BONUS LEVEL - The "Whole Enchilada" - This is for the type of customer who simply LOVES YOU and loves what you do, teach or sell and will buy anything and everything you offer or promote. They are your 'ideal client' I'd imagine.

Now, most of these levels are really easy to create and implement once shown how. I learned about this stuff in 2006 when I completely transformed my hourly consulting business to an International Business Coaching and Info-Product Company. I've leveraged my time and expertise and now work 6 hours a week with clients instead of 60 and spend the rest of the time marketing, developing new programs, playing bigger and enjoying life more!

"Do You Offer a Guarantee in Your Marketing?"

You see them on web pages and promotions for big live workshops, especially in the information marketing industry, all the time.

People offer to give a money-back guarantee either for an unlimited or limited time. Whether you're selling seats to a workshop, a home study kit or a downloadable digital ebook you can give a guarantee to help boost your sales.

Every big marketer I know, especially ones who make the big bucks, all will tell you it's definitely a good idea to offer a 100% guarantee because you'll end up selling more units/seats that way. Some even offer additional bonuses or credits in addition to returning their entire investment!

The increased number of sales or registrants you'll get will far outweigh the cost of whatever small number of returns you'll get. Anyone who's selling anything online typically will tell you this is a proven fact for them.

Now usually when I mention this to clients or maybe newbies in business they tend to cringe because they are so worried about selling anything in the first place, they'd hate to give up any money they did make if someone asked for a refund.
